Greetings from The Fiber Arts Center!

Greetings From the Board… We had a productive members meeting this month. For any of you who were not on the zoom meeting, here are some bullet points of what was discussed:

• We decided that this year’s Fiber Crawl needs to cancel due to Covid Issues and Staff shortages.

• Our finances are in okay shape. Store is doing well, and PPP loan is helping to fund the staff.

• Discussion was held about updating the Dye Kitchen. The biggest need is for gas burners to heat the dye baths. We have replaced the water heater with a gas water heater.

• Current washing machine is too small for washing large fleeces and dye batches. Further Study on washing fleeces, and other concerns needs to be looked at to assess a possible upgrade.

• Dues for next year will return to date joined instead of all in January.

• Dues for the upcoming year will be $60 per year or $25 per quarter or $10 per month.

• Bethe Orrell volunteered to handle the newsletter until staff positions are filled. This is the first one you will receive that she put together. Thank you Bethe!

Fleece Sale

May 28-29

Get your fleece on! There will be many colors of skirted churro from Los Luceros and Pat Oviedo. Ghost Ranch will also be providing fleeces. A Skirting Demonstration will be held on site both days Starting at 1:00 pm. You will find fine wool, romney, silk and other fleeces available for sale. In addition, select yarns and other retail fibers will also be discounted during these two days.

No appointments needed. Wear a mask and bring a friend.

Sale will be held at EVFAC, located at 325 South Paseo de Onate in Espanola.

Sheep Shearing

On Saturday, May 1 EVFAC sponsored the shearing of the sheep at Los Luceros. The sheep there are not purebred churro, although they are predominately so. They are slightly larger and the wool is just a wee bit softer. The shearer did a herculean task, shearing all 17 sheep by himself, each and every one fighting him. Los Luceros does not sponsor events so we could not send an invitation for this event. But if you come to the FLEECE SALE, you can witness a skirting demonstration. 60 inch 16 harness AVL for sale in Tijeras, New Mexico. Two back beams. Loom has been converted to computer driven, but I still have peg system if you want it. Must be picked up. $2500.
