Greetings EVFAC members and community, As we fallll into fall, we’re welcoming this inaugural edition of EVFAC’s resurrected newsletter! Our newsletter will come out the 1st Thursday of every month. It will note important dates for the upcoming month’s classes, announcements, goings-on, needs, and ways to get involved at the Center, as well as in the local Fiber community. It also welcomes contributions in the form of articles, images, and announcements from the you - the EVFAC community! If you have contributions that you would like to be included, please email Kim Zitzow at director@nmfiberartcenter.org by the 1st Monday of each month to be included in the upcoming month’s newsletter. Lastly, hello! My name is Kim Zitzow. In March of this year I joined EVFAC as the Director of Operations. I am an interdisciplinary artist and educator, with a practice focused around the intersections of art, ecology, and healing. Over the years I’ve created books, videos, installations, performances, meditations, gardens, and curriculum that have at times incorporated weaving and natural dying. That picture below is of me wearing a poncho/towel/blanket I wove while living in the Mojave desert, partially out of yarn dyed with plants and objects from the property where I lived. This past winter, I was introduced to EVFAC as a participant in the Ariat-Chimayo apprenticeship, and currently weave for Centinela Gallery in Chimayo. I am grateful to EVFAC and the Trujillo family for the opportunity to explore weaving and the fiber arts within such a rich local history, ecology, and community.
